The « Système Universitaire de Documentation » (Sudoc) catalogue is a French collective catalogue created by Higher Educational and Research libraries and resource centres. There are nearly 9 million bibliographic records in this catalogue describing all kinds of document (books, dissertations, reviews, electronic resources, audio-visual documents, microfiches, maps, scores, manuscripts and very old books.)
Sudoc also catalogues the series collections of periodicals held by around 2000 non-Higher Educational library institutions (such as Town Libraries, other resource centres, etc.)
Lastly, Sudocs mission is to list all dissertations/theses produced in France.
Searching the Sudoc catalogue allows you to :
To obtain bibliographic descriptions
To create bibliographies by downloading or exporting records
To save recordings to your shelf, during your search (up to 100 recordings) so that you can download them
To access the full text of a document if it is available on-line
To find where a document is held in a library that is part of the Sudoc network, so that you can consult it, or ask for its loan or copy.
Important !! To be able to use the Inter-Library Loan service you must have an identification number. To obtain this number, please apply directly to your own library (University or Higher Education Library, etc) who will inform you if you can have access to these services. No requests should be submitted to ABES, which holds no documents, and cannot give authorization to use the Inter-Library Loan service.
